Just wanted to say, I love the work. I am a student at Full Sail University. I sent your sites URL to a few people there. I really want to see the finished product of Ruin, but also all of the back stage stuff. I am very impressed.

Thanks for sharing this out.

I'm sure you already know this but someone took this video and paired it with the song "Sail" by AWOLNation on YouTube and together it turned out incredible. Excellent stuff and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Ahh ok, trailer looks sweet, LW seems like a robust app alright, hopefully Modo will get to that animation stage soon as well. Then it will be one dangerous program. Good luck with the rest of the film.

No worries. If you look at the date of this post, you'll see that this was a very early test shot I did one day. I hadn't even decided to make a short when I made this thing.

The RUIN trailer I just released has the final work.

But in general I agree with your comments.

Plus, I think this one was actually donein LW.

Hey mate,

I hope i don't over step the mark with feedback, just thought i would drop my comments. The atmosphere and modelling is perfect the only issue i think could be improved is how the jet comes past the camera. For such a large powerful machine it should give more impact and scale thrown past the camera as it flys by, maybe a slight heat trail for a split second as the jet scims past the lens. Maybe some dust residue blowing off the top and wings like it has been sitting on a building for years waiting for life and then it has fired up for a chase. Great concept and style though, really pushing modo in the process, sensational work.

cheers

Got say, man you are good! Just love the mood "Closer encounters" in your work. Well I guess you like the UFO subject...me too. And its funny because I like After Effects and MODO too.
I m working in a short animation for an UFO MAGAZINE here in Brasil called UFO (www.ufo.com.br) and I wish I could come with some stuff close to what you do.
Keep on the good work.
Take care.

Bloody hell .... this looks like ILM did this. Great effort and execution. You folks indeed have "the eye." I cannot believe what you can do in after effects today. I also love the fact that so many suites were used ... I'm seeing that this is how it's done more and more today. I started out in Light Wave ... many years ago... good to see it's still being used. Mixing software gives you an edge I think - people are wondering how you did this. OMG - the mix of old (praticle) and new - ALL of you who worked on this are great artists and techheads! Only crit is... and I know you know this - is the dragon fly off. Given time you had - this is out of the park. I'm showing this to all my peeps.

Yes. Essentially, we keyed the footage, then turned the character black and white. That gave us decent greyscale tones which were then colorized using the the tint effect. And for particular glows, we would just extract a particular color and colorize and that specific part.

Hello all and wonderful work! Being new to keying effects, I'd love to hear what actual After Effects tools were used to pull the florescent colors and a little bit about how it was done? Were they just converted to black and white after they were keyed? Very unique :)

I'm just about to start using it again, so I haven't really noticed the improvements yet. I'll have to look into the shadermeister plugin, but it seems his site is down at the moment.

501 still seems just as crashy for me, but it can definitely handle the bigger scenes, which I welcome.

Nice work wes!

Have you had a chance to use the updated dpInstance, with coloured wireframe previews, speed-ups and shadermeister (!) support?

Also curious how 501 is now handling the bigger scenes.

Cheers!

Wow, this is great! This is VERY close to a project I have in the works these next few months. Any advice on what you used for glows, cloud/fog footage, etc? I sense some trapcode and keyed smoke footage in there? Excellent work! Cheers, Andy
